Mega Slab Backyard Patio | McKellar Park
Our client reached out because her existing backyard patio had reached the point where it was no longer just looking tired. The old patio stones had become uneven and were beginning to crack, creating tripping hazards throughout the space.
She wanted a backyard that her family could comfortably enjoy again, while also giving the space a more modern, updated look.
Our Recommendation
After assessing the existing patio, we recommended a full rebuild rather than trying to repair the deteriorating surface.
With the condition of the existing patio and our client's vision for the space, a new installation offered the best opportunity to address the uneven areas properly while creating something that would add long-term value to the property.
The Design
One of our favourite existing features of the backyard was the beautiful curved garden bed along the back of the property, which our client had put so much care into creating. We wanted the new patio to complement that feature rather than take away from it..
Rather than designing a completely square patio that felt disconnected from the landscape, we incorporated a subtle curve into the new patio. This allowed the hardscape to follow the character of the backyard and created a more natural transition into the surrounding gardens.
Our client knew she wanted the modern look of large-format slabs and was drawn to warm, earthy colours. We selected Rinox Proma XL in Oka Beige, giving the patio the large-slab aesthetic she wanted while complementing the natural tones throughout the property.
The Result
The finished patio gives the backyard a much cleaner and more modern feel while still fitting naturally into the existing landscape.
Most importantly, our client and her family can now enjoy their backyard without navigating the uneven and cracked patio stones that were there before.
